Interaction with ppl

Hi everyone!
Today we had an opportunity to talk with the village people...to be more specific we spoke with the village representatives. We were able to understand many things..their expectations and need.and also the possible methods of delivering services to the ppl..The best part was it was the ppl who came out with their needs and expectations..so I think this method would really work out and ppl will surely get benefitted from this at least to some extent.. Though it was a difficult task to make the ppl understand the purpose of this and abt the maximum possible interventions which could be done by us..this day was the day that we actually realized what ppl think abt us and what they really expect from us.I sincerely thank all the faculties who accompanied us today and helped us during our interaction with the ppl. They have made this more easy and interesting.. without their help it wouldn't have went well.Tmrw we r going to camp..waited for this day of the postings.really excited!!! See u tmrw guys..bye

DataEntry

EpiData , its better than excel in practical aspects but excel is so vast which gives us enormous functional capabilities . But as a beginner Epidata is more convenient... Data entry was necessary in between these field schedules , because its a relief from the heat strokes and it helps to make data entry more simple rather than  typing a junk of data at last minute . .

Data entry

Hi, today was the first day of data entry. We found it easier to enter in epidata than Excel. Also the teachers guided us.Thats all abt today..bye

The Last Day: Field trip

Hi Guys! Wazzup? Did you miss me? I'm back!!!
Today was our last day of Community Medicine field visit. Though it was boring and intolerable at first (probably due to the hot sun), we started to enjoy our visits and it has become some kind of fun. Everyday we went through the streets and talked with the people there. We collected the necessary information, had some snacks bought from the nearby shops and then returned to our van. While questioning the people, they've asked us some questions too! Some of the common questions: "Why are you asking all these?" And when I asked about the food and groceries, "ithu laam uh college la keka sonnaanga? Itha therinjikitu enna panna poraanga?". Sometimes we replied and sometimes we couldn't.
Ok, I'll tell about today. We went to the first house for today. There was a man. He invited us inside. He gave us the info but after sometime he started talking about MGMCRI. He was angry at our hospital and said that he's never gonna go to our hospital again. His relative met with an accident and this person took him to MGMCRI at midnight. He was rich enough to pay the hospital bill, but at that time, he didn't take money with him. He said that the doctors refused to treat him unless he pays the bills. He was angry at the huge expenditure too. He said that they told him to go outside if he doesn't pay the bill immediately. He said, " Ok, you're just students from this college. After becoming doctors, you must serve the people. You shouldn't be arrogant like them". We just nodded our heads, smiled at him and then walked outside. What else could we do?
Next, there was a ferocious dog at a house. It started barking as soon as it saw us. The dog started walking towards us. Then the lady of the house came out and sent the dog away. It was quite a memorable adventure! What a dog!

Few issues regarding Bahour pet

Few  clicks by our group....main issue we just wanted to bring as our suggestion is this ...
!) presence of cattle shed  just near by the house not even 2 feet away. This has to be  changed by increasing the distance some what away from the living place.
!!) Dirty drainage ...in the village some measures has to taken.
!!!) Availability of bathrooms and toilets. In the village many houses there were no bathrooms.

Field trip ..... enjoyed a lot

Hello everyone 👋
I think everyone enjoyed our field trip to Bahour pet(5 days of survey).Of course it is a must to say about the people of that place ...juzzz superb ..they were so kind and very cooperative with us. But one thing common with everyone in village......  all they were asking about is ...why we !?all are asking these things(rice consumption, salt, sugar oil intake)  idhulama kekurnga !!!? 😂 and after that we gave so many explanations about our survey and finally they understood and gave their details.I conclude by saying this .... we all are very thankful for the dept of Community medicine for arranging this type of learning method(alternative education) we learned new things .. including first and foremost patience, team work, how to interact with people for getting info about them, visit to a village not our normal environment (college) observation and learning of many new things...  thereby enhancing our interest , desire and passion towards our profession. Learnt and enjoyed a lot with my friends .....😄👏👏

Last day survey

Full 5 days of survey.. completely different environment..lots of fun and memories..We have met a lot of people and spoke with them..it was nice..
To summarize,Bahourpet is a small village located at around 2 to 3 kms. from our college..Most ppl there belong to lower middle class and many depend on poultry and cattle for their income. The govt services like the anganwadis, ration shops, govt schools and hospitality are being utilized well by the ppl.Majority of their income is spent on food and groceries and on loans..we couldn't find any common diseases prevalent in that area..One thing to note was there is no toilets and bathrooms in some of the houses..and open garbage disposal..The main complaints from the ppl were that only very few items are given in the govt.PDS and so they have to spend more money for food outside. The environmental issues were mosquitoes and street dogs..From our point of view we found open sewage and garbage disposal as an important issue.
On the whole, we enjoyed doing this.thanks to the Dept and the teachers who accompanied and guided us all these days.. hoping for more such wonderful experiences..bye

Interactive session - Pro-forma development

Pro-forma development class .... initially we were divided according to our groups it was an interesting class as we were asked to frame  a questionnaire by ourselves ( discussing with our group members) for the topic given. It was an interactive session and professors were very helpful in forming questions as we are new to this . It's good that we learned how to make a pro-forma for the survey that we are going to have tomorrow in advance . ๐Ÿ‘Hoping that it won't be that much difficult for us in taking proforma for five houses each day for five days .........Letzzzz see how it  goes and sure that we are going to get a new experience and sure that we all will enjoy our field work (survey) tomorrow๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿ‘

Transect walk and/or Social mapping

Hi everyone
So yesterday was our first field trip.Transect walking to be specific. Was excited at first for it. My frnd was telling me that this was a bad idea. I didnt pay heed to him. But then after a while experiencing the weather i thought "This is indeed a bad idea!" but that aside it was really a nice experience. Walking around the village of Bahourpet, jotting down the important places on map. It is a nice place except for the littering and crap all over the streets. There was a community hall, a vet clinic, a water tank, handful of shops, good number Of houses with a population around 2500-3000. Learnt about social mapping amd transect walking though our task was transect walking. So that was it. And the faculty were kind enough to get us some refreshment. Thank u.

Social mapping

Hey guys...
Hope you all would have had a different experience today except for the weather.
Fine lets see what we had today, we were all taken to village nearby our college where about 3000 people lived. It was Bahourpet. We were asked to do a social mapping of the village. Social mapping is not as just how our Google map show our city or a place, its all about how the people of that area interpret their village or city with certain landmarks which is famous among the people who live there. We also did the same. We were divided into small groups and first we went around few streets of the village. This one is quite developed village it had concrete good water supply system a quite satisfying drainage system, with a school and a primary health care system.  We looked around the streets and finally caught hold two women who were a residant of that village. We then asked few questions about livehood. They gave us a good idea of their village. There were three important streets ambedkar st, mariamman kovil st and pudhu nager. They then drew a rough map of their village with the help of rice flour on the ground. By then it had become 12.30 and we all had to leave bck to our college so said them goodbye and boarded our bus. See u all guys back with another great day hoping that the sun being nice to us...

About today......

Its nice to see few posts.........Someone post about social mapping too.......with pics
And do come with social mapping charts tomorrow......

Quite a good experience

New way of learning .... quite a cool😎 and good experience today at Bahour pet. Initially we were divided into small groups and asked to make out few things by observing the places (housing conditions, sanitation, public spaces , stores, etc....) and  other group were asked to do social mapping. Enjoyed today rather than sitting in the class room having lectures ... trip by the department (transect walk and social mapping) gave new experience.🙌👍

Bahourpet - a transect walk!

Hello everyone!
Today we had "transect walk" an usual walk that includes not just mere walking but also exploring the village! This was a absolutely new experience and enjoyable one (except for the hot sunny day😓). We were divided into smaller groups and made to go about the streets of the village..We were asked to observe the lifestyle of the villagers.
We noticed many things. To mention a few, we saw a govt.primary school, a veterinary clinic and 2 anganwadis. We were also able to find many small shops on the roadside.
Another thing is about the open garbage disposal inspite of many bins kept there( the bins were overflowing too).
Also we were able to see domestic animals in majority of the houses as well as on the streets. We also got an opportunity to enter into the anganwadis and enquire them abt their day to day work, foods given, etc.
On the whole, it was a memorable day!

The Transect Walk

      Wazzup guys!?
Today, we went on the most awaited Transect Walk to Bahour. Though we enjoyed at the beginning, soon we began to regret it. That was because of the sun. It rained well last night. But the day was like toooo Hot!!!
Ok, let me talk about the place. The place was a village (not the exact kind of village you'd think of). We didn't see bullock carts there. There were sheep, hens and cows. There were motorbikes in every house (Pakka house or semi-pakka house doesn't matter). In some houses there were cars too! Street dogs..... they were many..... in each and every street. They never stopped barking at us. The roads were in good condition, they were laid using cement. But there were animal shit all over the roads! Garbage bins have been kept here and there, but most of them were overflowing and the trash were all around. The drainage system was an open-type drainage. I'm sure that there would be more mosquitoes. We walked across the streets and mapped them at our best.
Finally, around 12:15 PM, our walk came to and end. I was full wet due to sweat! And so were the others. The other group members, who went in some other direction, came after 15 minutes. Then we departed back to the college. That's all for today. See y'all back tomorrow! Good bye!
